Additional learning support
At Stockton Public School, we make sure every child feels confident, supported, and ready to learn. Our teachers and support staff work together to provide tailored assistance for students with disability or additional learning needs so they can take part in every aspect of school life.
Adjustments and interventions can begin at any stage of schooling, based on teacher observations, assessment data, or concerns raised by families in collaboration with classroom teachers. Support may be short-term or ongoing, depending on your child’s individual learning needs and progress.
Support that fits your child's needs
Every child learns differently, and we recognise and celebrate those differences. Our team works closely with families to understand each child’s strengths, challenges and goals. Together, we design support plans that make learning accessible, engaging and successful.
Our additional learning support may include:
- Adjustments to teaching, assessment, and routines to suit individual needs
- Teachers, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) and families working in partnership
- Specialist support for students learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
- Targeted small-group tutoring for literacy and numeracy
- Extension opportunities for high potential and gifted students
- Accessible classrooms, assistive technology, and tailored learning materials
We regularly review and adjust supports to make sure they are working and your child continues to feel confident and capable at school.
If you think your child may need extra help or you’d like to talk about their learning needs, please contact the school to arrange a chat with your classroom teacher first and foremost.
